| November 2004
We now live in Dun Laoghaire, co Dublin, Ireland, on the seafront, in a
big old house with our two sons Conor and Eoin (Irish spelling for
"Owen").
|
| Prior to arriving in Dublin, we lived aboard Ilari,
our 44-foot steel pilothouse cutter, and had been planning a world cruise,
but fate, our lives, Long ago, in a land far, far away, Jane and I met
while working for the same company (Computer Sciences
Corporation, or CSC), and decided to see the world.
We worked together in Montreal for two years, then moved to Asia in November
1994. We worked in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and finally in Indonesia, leaving
Jakarta in March 1999. |
| Jakarta: the
people are great; the island we were on (Java) is a cornucopia of culture and history ...
We chartered a boat twice, with friends: once we sailed up through the 'Thousand Islands'
(actually only a few dozen); another time we went out to Krakatoa
(which is west of Java).
At one time I would have said that Jakarta was my favourite place. However, over
the months, as I have had time to reflect, I have come to realize that in reality, each of
our stops had it's pluses and minuses, and that Jakarta, particularly after the events of
the last year we spent there, is less appealing than I once thought ... |

"I'm Irish: I grew up in Dublin with four
sisters. I enjoy sailing, reading, and music. In the last five years, I've lived in
Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Taipei, and Jakarta. So I guess I like travelling, too

Ian
"I'm Canadian. I was born in Paris, but I was
restless, and so after six months I moved to Aurora,
just north of Toronto.
My parents came along too ... My interests include sailing, skiing, exploring, and staring
at computer monitors. Jane and I intend to do a circumnavigation, beginning in 2000." |
 [Why the
plane? It's one of the first animated graphics I created, and I can't bear to part
with it ...] |
