Harmony Islands to Gorge Harbour: 54 nm
From Harmony Islands, we
sailed to Gorge Harbour. It was another motoring day, and we put into Gorge Harbour about
4 p.m. The trip was uneventful, but sunny! At Gorge Harbour we tested out a few new
things: the motor winch, and our new 9.9 outboard. Both performed admirably. We were
whisked across the harbour by the 9.9 to see the 2000!!-year-old fir tree. Unfortunately,
the directions we were not very explicit, and it took a while to find it. After walking
about a mile, we came across a many walking his dog. He informed us that we had walked
right by the tree! We walked back with him, and he told us stories about the tree, and
about the neighborhood. After getting back to the tree, he showed us a path through a
nearby provincial forest: after saying thanks, we explored the forest for a while, and
found our way back to our dinghy. Gorge Harbour is nice, except a lot of private
properties along the shore have signs shouting Cables: No Anchoring!! There were so many,
I wondered if it wasnt a scam just to keep boaters away. We were anchored not far
from a house with three-story bay windows, and a Cessna seaplane parked in the slip out
front. Another night of listening to the chain drag across rock, very pleasant once you
get used to it ...
