Log Entry: Tuesday, May 11th, 1999Blind Channel to Port McNeil: 64 nm
Motored all day, in drizzle. This time, Johnstone Strait was more true to form: lumpy, rolly, with a chop. Gale force winds following. Jane's log: "Ilari handled well in the conditions, and we were glad to have a pilothouse." A ketch, docked at Blind Channel, came out into the strait quite a bit behind us, and slowly gained on us all the way to Port McNeil, and passed us at the last buoy before the harbour. The harbour was well-protected, packed with fishing boats, but we easily found a spot. As we docked, there was a small ferry loading what looked like an entire high school, going we know not where. The harbour master turned out to be a mistress, and we were quickly processed. We wandered around town: small marine supplies store, and a giant IGA, where we loaded up on fresh stuff. They offered to drive us back to the dock: great service!
