Log Entry: Sunday May 16th, 1999Khutze Inlet to Otter Shoal: 58 nm
Lay awake for a good part of the night, worrying about the depth. Had a boundary alarm on the GPS, a depth alarm on the Depth sounder, and a boundary alarm on the Nav Suite. At around 3 am, the GPS alarm went off. Got out of bed like a shot, but it was a false alarm: the boundary was too tight for the 100+-foot error margin built into the GPS. Started by picking up the line (200 feet down!) to the prawn trap left overnight: just one sad prawn, as I had failed to properly secure the trap sides on the collapsible trap. So, I let him go, and brought the mess of line back to the boat.
Got to Bishop Bay, where we expected to find a quiet anchorage with hot springs, and found it crowded. There was a boat at the dock, plus three motorboats moored or anchored. One of these was a "party" boat, which had about 8 people on it, and a dinghy was ferrying people two at a time between the boat and the hot springs dock.
We decided to go elsewhere. We traveled for about three hours to reach Otter Shoal (Coghlan Anchorage), at the foot of Grenville Channel. Excerpt from Jane's log: "spotted some harbour (common) porpoises in Wright Sound, also a Brandt Cormorant on the light at Harbour Rock." It was deserted, quiet, and we spent an uneventful, peaceful night there.
