Ketchikan
Rain.
Woke up to find the cruise ships gone. I determined to finish updating our web
site, and send/collect our email. We checked the bodily fluids of our boat:
batteries, motor, generator: the oil was down on the engine, so we fed it, and decided
that both engine and genset needed oil changes.

Jane went to do the messages (Irish for running errands),
while I worked on the laptop. That's pretty much the whole day right there.
Jane also did a sneak preview of the Totem Heritage Centre, but it was locked.
She also went to a store called www.alaskamade.com,
and discovered that the owner had a boat which had been built by the same builder as ours:
Dieter Pollock. Dieter had apparently lived in Ireland for over twenty years!!
Dieter has been building a boat for his own use, and is about to go offshore, if he hasn't
already left ... The boat's designer, Graham Shannon, had been one of the earliest
users of CAD for designing boats, and went on to make a lot of money selling CAD software
to the big shipyards. |
We went out for dinner, to Annabel's Hotel, and experienced reasonable food at Alaskan
(shocking) prices.
During the day, HUGE new cruise ships had docked. They left around 6.
The weather forecast included gale warnings for the area we were headed for, so we
decided to stay in Ketchikan one more day.
It rained all night.
