Log Entry: Wednesday, May 26th, 1999Ketchikan
We met Mick and Janice, also on an Irish-flagged sailboat They had sailed from Ireland to Canada via Iceland and Greenland, then traveled down the Labrador coast, had done Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, come up the St Lawrence and traversed the Great Lakes, and finally brought the boat to the Pacific by rail from Thunder Bay to Prince Rupert. They are spending the summer in Alaska, currently headed for Kodiak They came aboard in the afternoon, and Jane dug up some Barry's Tea (an Irish blend), which delighted them: it really reminded them of home ... Late that afternoon, we headed over to Soapy's Station, who specialize in catering to the staff of the cruise ships which visit. They also have offices in Juneau and San Juan, Puerto Rico (the same cruise ships do the Caribbean during the winter months). They were extremely helpful, and went out of their way to assist us in what turned out to be a difficult web site update (for difficult, read: frequent line drops). We were ultimately unsuccessful, and had to postpone the update to the following morning.
