Overcast, but no rain.

Originally we had planned to stop in Kaguk Cove, but Jane was concerned that our itinerary did not include Otter Sound, so we kept on going, crossed Otter Sound, and anchored in Cyrus Cove.

Finally decided to finish the windlass repair. The windlass had been functioning OK, but needed a new leather brake glued in: the old leather brake was detached, and flew around inside the rope drum, and could have flown out into the sea at any time, rendering the windlass virtually useless.

Excerpt from Jane's log:

"The engine died just off Alberto Reef and Islands in San Alberto Bay near 'The Witnesses'.  We checked the fuel and oil, and seemed OK.   We had changed fuel tanks before leaving, so we switched back, and restarted with no problem.

"We motored to Harmony Islands and the Tonowek Narrows before heading into Sea Otter Sound.

"The winds were either with us and light, or on the nose and 15 knots.  We could probably have sailed a few miles, but with Ian not feeling too great we decided against it.

"We missed the Tonowek Narrows totems; maybe we had to head into Indian Garden Bay to see them ...

"Saw a large group of sea otters coming through Tonowek Narrows."

In the May 18th entry, I commented on the division of labour: Jane cooks, and I wash dishes, plus "check through-hulls, undo tight hose connections, change batteries, rummage around the bilge tracing wires and hoses." Jane read this, and regarded this as a slight on her efforts: she also has rummaged around the bilge, and I freely confess that I omitted to mention her equal-time involvement in activities such as oil changes, searches for lost bolts and nuts in the bilge, battery specific gravity testing, dinghy engine deployment onto and off of the stern motor mount, etc. So I hereby publicly apologize, regret any incorrect or false conclusion drawn by the reader, and withdraw any suggestion that Jane did not participate in these activities.
