Jane's log:

"Motored down to Shag Cove with the current, close to shore in the (futile) hope of spotting some wildlife.

"Anchored in Shag Cove at the head: a wonderful anchorage in the shadow of Mt. Marble.

"Spotted a herd of 10-12 mountain goats up on the ridges, and the inlet is just buzzing with bird life and also (unfortunately) insects, which got a few bites out of us while we tried fishing again for an hour or so; no luck again, but we had fun looking out for bears while we tried."

View of the cove ...

Today was the longest day of the year, which in Alaska is really saying something!  We go to bed in broad daylight every night, and we've pretty well forgotten what night looks like.  Whenever we see the moon, it's in a daylight environment.  We haven't seen stars.  That's OK though: we're not all that eager to see what the winter nights are like ...

We saw a whole bunch of these waaaay up on the mountainside.  This is a picture taken by someone else of a hypothetical mountain goat ...
