Skagway

I worked on updating our web site; Jane cycled out to Gold Cemetery to have a look ...

Every night and every morning, I have to have my BBC news fix.   On days when we can't receive the BBC (usually because we are in a cove surrounded by steep mountains) my day feels somehow not quite complete.  We have found, over the years, that the BBC gives us the only truly global coverage of any network. In Asia, we were able to receive two TV news networks: BBC and CNN.  CNN, even the international version available outside North America, is very americentric; and nothing else comes close. In Asia, we found that the Herald Tribune was a very good hardcopy source of international news. Here in North America, again: nothing comes close. I used to think that the IHT was - well, I can't say - but either they’ve changed, or I’ve changed … The trouble is, here you can’t get the Trib.  In Alaska, it’s difficult to find even Time or Newsweek …  I think it's because everyone now gets their news on TV, which we don't have.  When we first moved on to the boat, I thought I would die without TV.  Now, I wonder how I ever found the time to watch it!!
