We woke up to an otter on deck! he(she?) scampered back into the bay when
we came out to investigate ... When Jane went out to get the crab trap, there were
about 60 sea urchins all over the outside of the trap, and female crabs inside. We
let them go ...
Jane's log:
"We left the dock just before the minus tide due to concerns over the depth at the
slip. We motored towards lower Lynn Canal. The sea was choppy and
uncomfortable at 3-4' and even though we saw a sailboat tacking up the channel we decided
it would be quicker to keep motoring, with the wind on our nose.
"Spotted lots of humpbacks on the way; one breached and one, just at the entrance
to Echo Cove, made a huge splash with his tail, as if playing.
"On hearing a racket outside when we got up, we ventured out to find a sea otter
playing on the swim deck.
"Just females in the crab trap again: all were returned to the deep."
Somewhere, earlier on the trip, we had awakened to the noise of someone on deck, but it
turned out to be a raven. Ching does not take to these territorial violations very
kindly ...
