I really enjoyed this anchorage.  When we arrived, there were dozens of fishing boats in the harbour, and rafted three deep at the small public dock.  We anchored in a bay nearby, and dinghied to shore to find the hot springs.  We left the dinghy at the dock, and wandered up the trail, until finally we discovered a beautiful hot spring, one granite pool cascading into a lower one, then finally flowing into the adjacent rapids, boiling down the mountainside to the sea.  The water was quite hot, but not unpleasantly so.  We watched as the other occupant, a young man who was returning to the area as a visitor, having grown up here, jumped out of the hot water, walked over to a pool full of ice-cold glacial melt, and quickly and completely submerged himself!!   We looked on and marveled.

I didn't do that: instead, I settled for opening a can of Guinness Draft and languishing in the heat of the spring.  Jane shared the Guinness, and later did the ice-cold submerging thing: again, I marveled!

Later, we retraced our steps to the dock, on our way stopping by the only store in Baranof, where a young girl, Trudy, sold us some paper towels at a price which we mutually agreed to, as she didn't know what the correct price was ...

On the crowded dock, we found Jean, from Jambo III.  We hadn't seen her since that wretched time in Brundige Inlet: we compared notes on our travels since, and generally had a good chat.  As we talked, fireworks were exploding around us: leftovers from July 4th.

We wove our way through the fishing fleet back to our anchorage, amid roman candles in the twilight: it was a magic moment.

Jane's log:

"Motored along Frederick Sound to Chatham Strait.  The wildlife came out in force, about 7 humpback whales dove around us, including what looked like a mother and young.  We also spotted some porpoises, sea lion, and seals.

"After anchoring, we took the dinghy over to Baranof for a really great dip in the hot springs alongside the waterfall."
