We had calm weather all the way.  And, we found cellphone coverage while passing near Ketchikan: called family and friends.

foggy bay - bears 2.jpg (354643 bytes)Bears bears bears in Foggy Bay.  We anchored, took out the dinghy, and saw 7 bears all told (two coming in, one black, one brown; one by himself, took lots of film; another, just watched, and then the prize: a brown bear with two cubs!!)

Jane learned how to use the 2hp motor on the dinghy; I washed the rust off the topsides.

Jane's log:

"Motored down the Behm Canal in a favourable current.  With the weather so good we considered going further, but decided to stop at Foggy Bay anyway.

"Spotted lots of Harbour porpoises coming into Foggy Bay.

"What a great last anchorage in Alaska: brown and black bears as well as eagles greeted us on our entry through the narrow passage.

"Took the dinghy out rowing so we could bear watch. What luck: two black bears and a brown female with two very small cubs. That makes 7 bears in Foggy Bay: we can’t take Ching ashore!!"
