"We left to catch
the slack at Gabriola Passage. It was an uneventful passage across Georgia Strait:
the winds were too light to sail, and there was a small chop.
"We got to the passage right at slack only to find two tugs with log booms
negotiating the passage. We had avoided Dodd Narrows at Nanaimo because of this
problem. No worries, we stood aside for the first tug, and then went through.
"The Gulf Islands are packed! A quick trip back to Sidney is in order: we
stopped over in Clam Bay, it should have protection from tonight's Southeaster, and
although packed like the rest of the anchorages there is lot's of room, it's a big place.
"Over the radio, we hear 'securité, securité, securité, large white boat
entering Clam Bay with a humongous wake' !!?
"Spotted ten cormorants on the rock."
