Just getting back into this web page stuff, will update as many of these pages as I can over the next few weeks ...

The fall/winter rain has really settled in here in Sidney.  But things are starting to come together.

The boat is scheduled to come out of the water on or about November 29th to be painted and have work done on the hull (new through-hulls for new instruments, new zincs, propeller shaft inspection).

The canvas work is organized, and could start as early as this week!  This will give us a new dodger, a full cockpit enclosure, window screens, and new upholstery throughout the interior.

This week I'm also hoping to get started on the interior woodwork, which I'm doing myself.  This includes new book shelves, CD storage, DVD storage, and a redesigned nav station.

Well, I'm back from San Francisco.  What a trip!  I'll be adding a page to the site to describe this wonderful experience.  I learned a lot, and it has made me a lot more comfortable with the prospect of going offshore.

Getting things organised here is turning out to be very difficult.  I'm trying to get quotes for painting the hull; for doing a wack of canvas work; for upgrading most of our electronics and electrical system; for doing some engine work.  Hopefully it will soon start to come together ...

There's a nip in the air here all of a sudden.  Until the last couple of days, the weather here was delicious, but now it's 'seasonal'.  Have you ever noticed that 'seasonal' is never used to describe good weather?

I miss Jane terribly.   We have been experimenting with NetMeeting, a Microsoft product that allows people to videoconference with each other over the internet.   We've had limited success, but have been able to see each other for the first time in about six weeks ...

Jane is currently in Dublin, working, while I am in Sidney, upgrading the boat, so we can leave for the South Pacific in the May/June timeframe.

Starting October 2, I am going to crew on Dragon's Eye, a 50-foot ketch skippered by Jeff Tindall, on a passage from Victoria BC to San Francisco (Jane and I met Jeff and Mary Tindall in Blind Channel).  This will give me some ocean sailing experience, and start to prepare me psychologically for the trip next year.
