Log Entry: Monday, July 26th, 1999 Queen Charlotte City to Beattie Anchorage: 43.2 nm
[tide floods north, ebbs south As we prepared to leave Queen Charlotte, we learned from a local that we were doing the right thing to wait until later in the day to leave, as we would have the tide with us: the tide in Haida Gwai floods north and ebbs south. For last minute provisioning, we gave Nathalie the handheld VHF, and communicated with her (she was identified as 'shore party'). We weighted anchor, and met Nathalie at the Skidegate fuel dock, where Ching promptly vanished under the fuel dock office. She came out eventually ...Nathalie didn't want to go to Beattie because it was an ex-logging camp, and locals sort of looked down on anchoring there. Beattie has old black rubber tires around the moorings, like Larsen Harbour. They left big black marks all over the bow. It was quiet, not as bad as we had feared ... Jane's log:
